*RUST RATING: 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 (4/4) Aspiring Actors/Musicians

Flash Summary

One aspiring jazz pianist (Ryan Gosling) and one aspiring actress (Emma Stone) meet, dance, fall in love, and try to make it big in La La Land.

The Good

  • The Music: the film is packed full of great original music that will get you dancing in your seat!
  • The Dancing: Gosling and Stone are the new Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!  Their dance scenes together are magical, but the best dance scenes are the opening number and the pool party scene.23
  • Emma Stone’s Acting: she is irresistible and adorably funny throughout the entire film.  Check out her audition scenes in the film and you’ll see why she’s been nominated for all the best actress awards this season.6
  • Ryan Gosling’s Piano Skills: who knew Mr. Gosling was this good at playing the piano, you’ll be mesmerized whenever his fingers touch the keys!4

The Bad

  • Runtime: the film feels a little long in the middle, there are a few scenes that could have been cut.

Final Verdict

Great music, great dancing, great acting, high energy, and the story twist at the end of the film makes it more than just a nod to old Hollywood musicals.
